Eagle
Rock Ranch Final Phase Completed!
With the dedication and perseverance
of the Cox family, along with assistance from The Nature
Conservancy, Great Outdoors Colorado Trust, U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service; LLT has been able to complete this remarkable
project. This expansive landscape, that Benjamin Franklin
Ketchum, (Elizabeth Cox’s
grandfather and Beverly Black’s great grandfather)
homesteaded in 1870, was once home to the largest registered
Angus herd in the United States.
The total protected land area of the ranch is now 13,268
acres.
The dominant natural features on the ranch are the Chalk
Bluffs, dividing the northern High Plains from the southern
Colorado Piedmont. The ranch also hosts vast acres of short
grass prairie, winter range for mule deer and pronghorn,
and species of concern that include ferruginous hawks, burrowing
owls, mountain plovers and swift fox. Part of the overall
project also involved a neo-tropical migratory songbird habitat
grant.
Thank you to all our members and supporters who ultimately
helped us make this happen with your generous ongoing contributions!
